    Difference of squares

    x^2 - a^2 = (x-a) (x+a)

    x^-4 = x-2^2 = (x-2) (x+2)

    a^2 - b^2 = (a + b) (a - b) so we have a = x and b = 2:-

    x^2 - 4 = (x + 2) (x - 2) (answer)
