As you have to pay a sales tax of 6%, multiply 8.5*6% or $8.5*0.06 = $0.51 then add it to $8.5 so you get the answer = 8.5+0.51 = $9.01

If you have tax, then you multiply the cost by 1.06 since it is 6%. you mutlipy 8.50 by 1.06 and you get $9.01
