On the final weekend of the 35% off sale the prices are cut further by 15%. The manager of the shop advertises a 50% off sale. Is she correct? Explain your answer.

    Let's take it by choosing an arbitrary figure for the original price and let's say it's 500

    When the price is reduced by 35% the new price would be

    500 * [100-35]/100

    500 * 65/100 = 325

    When the price is reduced further by 15%,

    The new price would be;

    325 * [100-15]/100

    325 * 85/100 = 276.25

    To say the price was reduced by 50% of the original price would have been it reduced by half of the original price which would be

    500/2 = 250
