Put the numbers in sequential order ...

    10, 10, 15, 15, 16, 18, 23

divide the sequence into the 1st and 3rd quartiles. In this one the median is 15 So the 1st quartile is the 1st 3 numbers and the 3rd quartile is the last 3 numbers.

Now find the median of each quartile.

    1st - 10

    3rd - 18

Take the difference between the two

    18 - 10 = 8

8 is your mean absolute deviation (MAD)
