There are 144 miliion cars, and each car on the road burned up about two gallons of gas a day. So 144 million cars burned up about 288 million gallons of gas each day.

And for one gallon, 1 pound of carbon dioxide is released into Earth's atmosphere. So for 288 million gallons, 288 million pounds of carbon dioxide is released each day.

Therefore in a week, 288*7 million pounds of carbon dioxide release, that is approx 2 billion pounds.

So the correct option is the first option.
