Lindsay's estimated cost for the first year at a two year college and her assets are shown in the tables below. Lindsay uses her savings to pay for the year after the grant and scholarship are applied. How much more money does Lindsay have left in her savings?

Tuition and fees: $7,800.00

Room and board: $6,725.00

Books and supplies: $1,200.00

Personal expenses: $2,225.00

Savings: $5,685.00

First year grant: $1,500.00

First year scholarship: $3,750.00

    So we have to add the expenses and savings, and subtract them afterwards, lets call them negative and positive respectively to group them:

    negative = tuition + room + book + personal

    negative = 7800 + 6725 + 1200 + 2225

    negative = 17950

    positive = savings + grant + scolarship

    positive = 5685 + 1500 + 3750

    positive = 10935

    we have to subtract the negative from the positive to have a grand total:

    total = positive - negative = 10935 - 17950 = - 7015

    that means that the savings, grant and scholarship are not enough to pay the total expenses, they lack $7015 indeed
