There are only red beans and green beans in a bag the ratio of the number of red beans to the number of green beans is 5; 9 what fraction of the beans are red

    Let the red beans be 5x and green beans be 9x

    Then,

    total beans = 5x + 9x = 14x

    ∴ The fraction of beans that are red = No. of red beans / Total beans

    = 5x/14x

    = 5/14
