    Nick ran 5280 ft. (1 mi.) in 4 min. 2 secs.

    Convert 4 min. 2 secs. to secs.

    60 secs. = 1 min.

    4 (60) + 2 = secs.

    240 + 2 = secs.

    242 = secs.

    Nick ran 5280 ft. in 242 secs.

    5280ft./242sec.

    Divide both sides by 242

    21.81818181 ... ft./sec.
