An electric guitar is on sale at 40% off. if the sale price is 179.94, what is the original.

    Let x = original price

    Knowing that multiplying the original price and the discount is the discount price. We formulate:

    x (1 - 0.40) = 179.94

    x (0.60) = 179.94

    x = 179.94/0.60

    x = 299.9

    That is about 300 of the original price.
