A mother is three times as old as her daughter. Six years ago the mother's age was six times that of her daughter. What is their present age?

    The mum's age now = N

    The daughter's age now = n

    N=3n

    N-6=6 (n-6)

    3n-6=6n-36

    3n=30

    n=10

    The daughter's age now = 10

    The mum's age now = 30
