17/30=x/6 (write these as fractions)
Cross multiply. Multiply 30 with x and 17 with 6, and make those two expressions equal each other.
30x=17*6
30x=102
Use inverse operations to isolate x.
30x=102
30 30
x=3.4
17 over 30 = 3.4 over 6.
