What is the height of a flag pole that casts a shadow of 100 feet when the angle of elevation of the sun is 62º? (to the nearest tenth)

    It would be TOA because we have opposite and we are looking for adjacent.

    1. Tan62 = 100/x (It would be opposite/adjacent)

    2. x * Tan62 = 100/x * x (multiply x by both sides to take it out of the denominator)

    3. x * Tan62 = 100 (x cancels out)

    4. x * Tan62/Tan62 = 100/Tan62 (remember were trying to get x alone so we divide both sides by Tan62

    5. x = 100/Tan62 (Tan62 cancels out on the left side, leaving x alone)

    6. In your calculator you do 100 divided by Tan62 to give you 53.17094317

    7. You simplify to the nearest tenth to end up with

    x = 53.2
