For a baseball team, the first batter has a 50% chance of getting a hit. The second batter has a 40% chance of getting a hit. What is the probability that both batters will get a hit?

    These are 2 independent events, so to answer this question we multiply the two probabilities together to obtain the joint probability (that is, the probability that both batters will get a hit):

    P (both get a hit) = 0.5*0.4 = 0.20 (answer)
