The denominator of a fraction is 5 more than the numerator. if both the numerator and denominator are increased by 3, the the resulting fraction becomes 3/4. find the original fraction.

    x / (x+5)

    If increase by 3:

    (x+3) / (x+8) = 3/4

    Cross multiply.

    4 (x+3) = 3 (x+8)

    4x+12 = 3x+24

    Solve algebraically.

    4x-3x = 24-12

    x = 12

    Therefore, original fraction is:
