    To represent girls, you would use x+22 and boys: x

    So the equation is

    x/x+22 = 5/7

    Use cross multiplication (solving proportions)

    You get

    7x=5x+110

    2x=110

    x=55

    55 boys

    x+22

    55+22=77 girls

    55+77 = 132 students in total

    So we know that 5:7 in boys:girls format

    boys+22=girls

    boys=5

    girls=7

    boys + 2units=girls

    2units=22

    1unit=11

    7units+5units=12units

    12 times 11 = 132
