What do Americans think about preferential hiring of women? Has there been a change in the past decade? In 2000 (group 1) and 2010 (Group 2), the General Social Survey asked participants if they would favor or oppose preferential hiring of women. In 2000, out of 849 respondents, 271 said yes. In 2010, out of 696 respondents, 225 said yes. T is (-0.0509,0.04273).

For the alternative hypothesis, Ha: p1-p2 does not equal zero, what can we say about the p-value?

a. Cannot be determined.

b. The p-value is equal to 0.05

c. The p-value is greater than 0.05.

d. The p-value is less than 0.05.

    c. The p-value is greater than 0.05.

    Step-by-step explanation:

The question is incomplete: "The 95% confidence interval is (-0.0509,0.04273)."

We have the result of the inference as a 95% confidence interval with bounds (-0.0509,0.04273).

This confidence interval tells us that, at the level of significance used in the study, the difference (p1-p2) is not significantly positive as the value p1-p2=0 is included in the interval and is one of the possible values of the true difference between the proportions.

Then, a test of hypothesis done with same data and level of significance would failed to reject the null hypothesis, as the difference between proportions is not significative.

That would mean that the P-value is greater than the significance level, what it means that the P-value in this case is greater than 0.05.
