    I^2 = - 1

    i^3 = i^2 * i = - i

    i ^4 = i ^2 * i ^2 = - 1*-1 = 1

    i ^5 = i^4*i = i

    This pattern continues

    -1, - i, 1, i, - 1, - i, 1, i ...
