So what I would do is divide 14 or the people by 3 or the pounds, to get Pounds per Person.

So what I would do is:

    14 / 3 = 4.6 pounds per person.

So you have 55 people so you would multiply 55 by 4.6

    55 • 4.6 = 253

    253 pounds are needed

The answer comes from using proportions. 3lbs to 14 people. Turn that into a fraction, then make a second fraction with 55 as the denominator. Find a common denominator for both denominator values, and multiply the numerators to find the missing value.
