    To find how many fish David fed the mother, you will use the part to part ratio of 5 fish for the mother to 3 fish for the baby to come up with a total amount from this simple ratio.

    5 + 3 = 8 fish

    If there were 32 total fish fed to the mom and baby, this is 4 groups of the 8 that is represented in the simple ratio.

    This means there will be 4 times the number of fish fed to the mother as well.

    5 x 4 = 20

    There were 20 fish fed to the mother.

    5 20

    3 = 12

    8 32
