A 50 kg boy runs at a speed of 10 m/s and jumps onto the cart. The cart is initially at rest. If the speed of the cart with the boy on it is 2.5m/s, determine the mass of the cart

    Use conservation of momentum

    m1v1 + m2v2 = (m1 + m2) v3

    50 x 10 + 0 = (50+m) x 2.5

    500 = 125 + 2.5m

    2.5m = 375

    m = 150kg
