Lets say the with is equal to W and the length is W+10=L

W (W+10) = 144 then

W^2 + 10W=144

W^2 + 10W - 144 = 0

(W-8) * (W+18) = 0

W=-8 but if you multiply - 8*18=-144 so just turn - 8 into a positive 8*18=144 and now it is W=8 and L=18 if you wonder what L means it means Length.
