    First piece=8 inches

    Second piece=16 inches

    Third piece=32 inches

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let the length of all the pieces be;

    First piece=x

    Second piece = twice as long as first piece=2x

    Third piece=four times as long as first piece=4x

    Total length=56 inches

    Total Length=Length of first piece+length of second piece+length of third piece

    Replacing;

    56=x+2x+4x

    7x=56

    x = (56/7) = 8

    Replacing value for x in;

    First piece=x=8 inches

    Second piece=2x = (2*8) = 16 inches

    Third piece=4x = (4*8) = 32 inches
