Plug the first equation into the second equation.
4 (1/4+2) - x = 60
Multiply everything in the parenthesis by 4.
1 + 8 - x = 60
Combine like terms.
9 - x = 60
Subtract 9 from both sides.
-x = 51
Divide - 1 on both sides.
x = - 51
Plug - 51 into the second equation.
4y - (-51) = 60
4y + 51 = 60
Subtract 51 from both sides.
4y = 9
Divide 4 on both sides.
y = 2.25
The solution is (-51,2.25)
