First you need to expand 2 (x+4).
2x+8=-5x+1
next, it will be easier for you to move the expression at one side and the numbers on the other side. i will put the expression on the left and and number on the right. this will ensure less confusion and also easier for you to solve. when you bring - 5x over to the left hand side, the expression will become positive 5x. The 8 will become - 8 when it moves to the right.
2x+8=-5x+1
2x+5x=1-8
7x=-7
x = - 1
the answer is x = - 1
