2x - y = 17 ⇒ 2x - 1y = 17
x - y = 10 ⇒ 2x - 2y = 20
y = - 3
2x - (-3) = 17
2x + 3 = 17
-3 - 3
2x = 14
2 2
x = 7
(x, y) = (7, - 3)

So 2x-y=17
x-y=10
multiply second equation by - 1
-x+y=-10
add to first equation
2x-y=17
-x+y=-10
2x-x+y-y=17-10
x=7
subsitute
7-y=10
subtract 7
-y=3
multiply - 1
y=-3
x=7
y=-3
