An artist is designing a kite like the one show below. Calculate the area to determine how much material she will need to create the kite.

A kite with two top triangles with height of 6 inches and a base 8.5 inches. The bottom two triangles share the base but have a height labeled 13 inches.

36 square inches

110.5 square inches

161.5 square inches

323 square inches

    6 x 8.5 = 51

    8.5 x 13 = 110.5

    Then add them together

    Which equals 161.5

    So the 3rd one is the right answer
