    -6 1/2

    Step-by-step explanation:

First, make - 12 3/14 an improper fraction!

    1) - 12 3/14

    2) - 171/14

Now make 5 5/7 an improper fraction!

    1) 5 5/7

    2) 40/7

Now find a common denominator for both fractions! (14)

    1) - 171/14 <- - Already has the common denominator

    2) 40/7

    3) 80/14 <- - Now has 14 as denominator

Now add the two values together!

    1) - 171/14 + 80/14

    2) - 91/14

Now simplify the fraction - 91/14!

    1) - 91/14

    2) - 6 1/2
