    Jane's apples + Andre's apples + Maria's apple = 840

    j + a + m = 840

    (Andre picks three times as many pounds Maria, so a is 3 times "m")

    j + 3*m + m = 840

    (Jane picks two time pounds as Andre, so j is 2 * a or 2 * 3 times "m")

    2 * 3 * m + 3*m + m = 840

    6 * m + 3*m + m = 840

    9 * m + m = 840

    10 * m = 840 (divide each side by 10)

    m = 840/10

    m = 84

    a is 3 time m

    a is 3 * 84

    a = 252

    The answer is 252 pounds
