    Heyo!

    Solve the equation

    1/3 (2x - 4) + 5 = - 2/3 (x + 1)

    Distribute 1/3 through the parenthesis

    2/3x - 4/3 + 5 = - 2/3 (x + 1)

    Distribute - 2/3 through the parenthesis

    2/3x - 4/3 + 5 = - 2/3x - 2/3

    Calculate the sum or difference

    2/3x + 11/3 = - 2/3x - 2/3

    Multiply both sides of the equation by 3

    2x + 11 = - 2x - 2

    Move variable to the left side and change its sign

    2x + 2x + 11 = - 2

    Move constant to the right side and change its sign

    2x + 2x = - 2 - 11

    Collect the like terms

    4x = - 2 - 11

    Calculate the sum or difference

    4x = - 13

    Divide both sides of the equation by 4

    x = - 13/4
