If a movie theater has 500 chairs and 3/4 have people sitting in them how many seats are filled

    375 chairs

    500 (.75) = 375

    The way I do these kind of problems, just because it's easier to me unless I have a calculator.

    500/5 = 100. Get it to 100 and the fractions are less of a problem.

    3/4 of 100 is 75. Now multiply 75 by 5, and you get 375.

    375 of the chairs have people in them
