Kate's garden measures 15 yards by 12 yards. In order to make a path around it she will need to reduce the size of her garden. The dimensions of the smaller garden will be related by a scale factor of 0.7. What is the area of the path around the garden in square yards?

    It should be 91.8 yards. Whenever you lower the dimensions, you'd multiply each factor by 0.7 to get a scale factor of them. After doing so, you'd get the dimensions of 10.5 and 8.4. After finding the area of the whole garden area, it'd be 180 yards. Then using the factored area which is 88.2, you'd subtract 88.2 from 180, leaving you with 91.8, being the area of the path.
