    D=darlene's dog

    l=leah's dog

    d=5l

    together it is 84

    d+l=84

    subsitute 5l for d

    5l+l=84

    6l=84

    divide both sies by 6

    l=14

    sub back

    d=5l

    d=5 (14)

    d=70

    darlene's dog weighed 70lb

    leah's dog weighed 14lb
