One fifth of the plants in a vegetable garden are cucumber plants. If there are 8 cucumber plants what equation can be used to find the total number of plants in the garden?

    Let the total number of plants = x

    one fifth of x = x/5

    so number of cucumber plants = x/5

    but it is given that there are 8 cucumber plants.

    so "x/5 = 8"

    it is the required equation to find the number of plants in garden. (x is number of plants in the garden)
