    12 cups sugar

    Step-by-step explanation:

    there are a couple ways to do this ... by unit rate or a proportion ...

    2 cups of sugar for every 1/2 cup of lemon juice

    2 / (1/2) = 2 * 2 = 4 ... the unit rate is 4/1 ... or 4 cups of sugar for every 1 cup of lemon.

    so if u have 3 cups of lemon, and 1 cup of lemon = 4 cups of sugar, then 3 cups of lemon would equal (4 * 3) = 12 cups of sugar

    or set it up as a proportion ...

    2 cups sugar to 1/2 cup lemon = x cups sugar to 3 cups lemon

    2 / (1/2) = x / 3 ... cross multiply

    (1/2) (x) = (3) (2)

    1/2x = 6

    x = 6 * 2

    x = 12 cups sugar

    either way u choose to do it will result in the same answer.
