    17.97 + 25.49 + 3x = 50.33 where x = the cost of a pair of socks

    3x + 43.46 = 50.33

    3x = 50.33 - 43.46 = 6.87

    x = 6.87 / 3 = 2.29

    each pair of socks cost $2.29
