If a rock falls from a height of 60 meters on Earth, the height H (in meters) after x seconds is approximately H (x) = 60 - 4.9x2. When does the rock strike the ground? Round to the nearest hundredth, if necessary.

    Using the x = Vt + 0.5 a*t^2 equation,

    plug in the values to get 0 = - 4.9t^2 + 60.

    solve for t to get 3.5
