Marty makes $1,050 weekly working as a plumber. After being hit by a car, he requires back surgery. Marty is billed $145,000 for the surgery and $23,000 for follow-up care. He is unable to work for two years. How much money is John entitled to receive from his basic disability insurance?

    Summing up all the expenses incurred for hospitalization (including the initial bill and the follow - up care) will give us an answer of $168,000. Then the amount that could have been earned by working for 2 years is calculated below.

    (52 1/7 weeks / year) ($1,050 / week) (2 years) = $109,500

    Adding this to the initial sum calculated.

    total = ($109,500) + ($168,000) = $277,500
