    The sum of two numbers is 10. One number is 4 less than the other number. and 3. The numbers are 7 and 3

    Solution:

    Let one of the number whose sum is to be taken be "x"

    Let the other number be "y"

    Also, as given in the question, one number is 4 less than the other number. Which can be written as y = x - 4

    Thus, y = x - 4

    The sum of the two numbers x and y is given as 10

    Therefore, x + y = 10

    Substituting the value of "y" in above expression we get

    (x) + (x - 4) = 10

    2x - 4 = 10

    2x = 14

    x = 7

    Therefore, if x = 7 then y = x - 4 = 7 - 4 = 3

    Thus, the two numbers are 7 and 3
