The area of a rectangle is 52 yd2, and the length of the rectangle is 5 yd less than twice the width. find the dimensions of the rectangle.

    Let's say the rectangle's dimensions are l and w.

    Then:

    wl = 52

    l = 2w-5

    This we can solve:

    w (2w-5) = 52

    2w² - 5w - 52 = 0

    Using the quadratic formula you can find w = 13/2

    So l = 8
