Beth worked 40 hours last week. Her paycheck was $429, after deductions of 22%. what is her weekly pay before deductions?

    You can set up a proportion like this: 429/x = 78/100. Cross through each like solving for proportions and you'll get 42900 = 78x or 78x = 42900. Then, solving like an equation, divide 78 on both sides. 42900 divide 78 will equal 550, so therefore that is the answer. (Her weekly pay before deductions is $550.)
