Write a real word problem in which two negative integers are subtracted

Jack and Jill each took a pail of water out of the tank on the hill. When Jack filled his pail, the water in the tank decreased by 6 gallons. When Jill filled her pail, the water in the tank dropped by 4 gallons. Who had more water in the pail? How much more? (Jack is terrible at Math. He broke his crown trying to answer this question.)

1. Mt. Everest, the highest elevation in Asia, is 29,028 feet above sea level. The Dead Sea, the lowest elevation, is 1,312 feet below sea level. What is the difference between these two elevations?
