    Two sides of a triangle are: 5, 14.

    By triangle inequality the sum of each pair of sides must be > the third side.

    x + 5 > 14

    Subtract 5 from both sides.

    x > 9

    x + 14 > 5

    Subtract 14 from both sides.

    x > - 9

    5 + 14 > x

    19 > x

    x has to be greater than 9 but less than 19.

    I guess you mean 5m and 14m are the lengths of 2 sides of the triangle.

    If the length of any side is equal or greater than the sum of the other 2 sides then you can; t make a triangle.

    So for example 19 cannot the answer because 19 = 5 + 14. No triangle can be formed with sides that measure.

    and 38 is greater than 14 + 5 so its cant be C.
