To solve number line problems using greater than, less than, and equal to, start by drawing the number line that corresponds with your answer. If the answer is less than a number, put an open circle on the number and shade to the left. If the answer is greater than, put an open circle by the number you are starting at, and shade to the right. If the answer is less than or equal to or greater than or equal to, put a closed circle on the number you are starting with and shade either to the right or left, depending on the sign.
