The common denominator of 8 and 16 will be the least common multiple of 8 and 16 or 16. To get a 16 in the denominator of 2/8, we multiply the numerator and the denominator by 2 which gives us 4/16.
Now notice that 4/16 is equal to 4/16 since we changed 2/8.
Since 4/8 equals 4/8, these fractions are the same
