Alyson has 46 beads to make bracelets. Each bracelet has five beads. How many more beads does Alyson need so that all the beads she has are used? Explain

    Let's try division first. 46:5 = 9 1/5. So, that doesn't work.

    Next, we will find the next multiple of five. This is 50. 46+4=50. Right now, Alyson can only make 9 bracelets. (5 x 9 = 45) She needs 4 more to use all of her beads, making 10 bracelets.
