Sarah is designing a logo. First, she paints a green square with side lengths of 5 feet. Then she uses blue paint to inscribe two semicircles as shown. What is the area of the part of the logo that is still green?

    To find the area of the part that is still green you will find the area of the square and subtract the area of the whole circle that would be created with the blue paint inside the square.

    A = bh

    5 x 5

    A = 25 square feet (Square)

    A = pi x r^2

    3.14 x 2.5^2

    A = 19.625 square feet (Circle)

    25 - 19.625 = 5.375

    The approximate area is 5.375 square feet.
