A map uses a scale factor of 1/4 inch equals 10 miles. If two cities are 3 inches apart on the map, how many miles are they actually apart?

    There are 4 1/4's in one inch. We can multiply this 4 by 3 to give us 12, there are 12 1/4's in 3 inches. Then we multiply 12 by 10 to give us the distance in miles. Therefore the answer is 120 miles.
