Carolyn is planning a community garden she would like the length of the garden to be 4 feet more than its width. Carolyn wants to find out how much it would cost to buy fencing to put around the entire garden. What expression can she use to represent the perimeter of the garden?

    Let's make the width 'x'.

    And the length 'x+4'.

    Perimeter is adding up ALL the sides.

    Add: x + x + 4 + x + x + 4.

    Simplify:

    x + x + 4 + x + x + 4 = 4x + 8
