A 14-foot tree casts an 8-foot shadow. At the same time, a nearby flagpole casts a 10-foot shadow. Which of the following represents the height of the flagpole to the nearest tenth of a foot?

    Put 14 over 8 and x over 10

    then cross multiply

    8x over 140 is what you get

    divide 140 by 8 and you get 17.5 feet.
