    There are 3 geese and 16 oxen.

    x is the number of geese and y is the number oxen.

    x+y=19

    2x+4y=70

    Solve by substitution:

    y = - x+19

    2x+4 (-x+19) = 70

    2x-4x=-6

    x=3

    3+y=19

    y=16
